Detailed 12-Day Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

On arrival at the international airport in Nairobi, our driver/guide will meet you and welcome you to Kenya. You will drive to Amboseli National Park, your first safari destination. Enjoy the views of Mt. Kilimanjaro on the way.

Arrive in the afternoon, have lunch, and go on your first game drive in the park. Amboseli is known for large herds of elephants and many other animals such as giraffes, gazelles, buffalos, warthogs, and impalas.

After the game drive, head to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Amboseli

Start the day with an early morning game drive, then return for breakfast. Later, go back out to explore different areas of the park and spot more animals. Look out for lions, elephants, zebras, wildebeests, leopards, cheetahs, and many others. Enjoy views of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background. In the evening, relax at your lodge or camp. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nanyuki Town

After breakfast, enjoy a game drive as you leave Amboseli. Drive via Nairobi toward Nanyuki, at the base of Mt. Kenya. After lunch on the way, arrive in the late afternoon, check in at your hotel, relax, and enjoy the evening. Tomorrow you will visit Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Visit Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After an early breakfast, drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a private sanctuary that protects endangered animals, including the last two northern white rhinos. It is also home to the Big Five, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, zebras, and hartebeests.

Go on a game drive in the conservancy, then return to your hotel in Nanyuki in the afternoon. Relax, have dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 5: Drive to Samburu National Reserve

After breakfast, drive to Samburu National Reserve. Upon arrival, enjoy a short game drive on the way to your lodge, followed by lunch. Later, go on a longer game drive. Look for special animals such as reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, Beisa oryx, Somali ostriches, and big cats like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Full Day in Samburu

Begin the day with an early morning game drive. You will explore the dry plains and the riverbanks of Samburu. Morning hours offer better chances to see active animals. Return for breakfast, then go on another game drive later in the day.

You may choose to carry a packed lunch or return for a hot lunch at the lodge. After lunch, go for an afternoon drive. Look for leopards in trees. In the evening, relax at your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, leave Samburu with a game drive on the way out. Drive through the scenic Great Rift Valley and stop at a viewpoint for photos. Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park in the late afternoon, check in at your lodge or camp, and relax. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Full Day in Lake Nakuru

Enjoy game drives throughout the day. Although flamingo numbers have decreased due to changes in the lake’s water levels, the park still has many birds and animals. Look out for hippos, waterbucks, giraffes, rhinos, buffalos, warthogs, impalas, elands, and sometimes leopards. End the day with a relaxing evening and dinner at your lodge or camp.

Day 9: Drive to Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast, drive to Masai Mara, which is connected to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is well known for the annual wildebeest migration that happens from July to October.

Arrive in the afternoon, have lunch, then go for a game drive to see elephants, buffalos, antelopes, hippos, and crocodiles near the Mara River. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge or camp.

Days 10 & 11: Full Days in Masai Mara

Spend two full days on game drives. Start early in the morning for better chances to see lions or other predators. After breakfast, continue with more game drives throughout the day. You can choose to return to the lodge for lunch or have a packed picnic.

Try to catch the wildebeests as they gather at the Mara River or possibly see the river crossing, depending on the season. After your drives, relax at the lodge or camp and enjoy the evening. Dinner and overnight stay.

Optional: You can add a hot air balloon safari or a visit to a Maasai village at an extra cost.

Day 12: Return to Nairobi and Departure

After your final breakfast, pack your bags and leave for Nairobi. Your driver will drop you at the airport for your flight home.
