Detailed Kenya Culture & Game Viewing Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Airport / Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Welcome to magical Kenya. Meet and greet at the airport or your hotel in Nairobi where our company driver / safari guide will pick you from and you embark of the journey to Samburu National Reserve, the park where nature defies itself. The scenic drive will take you through the lower slopes of Mt. Kenya and across the Equator which will be your first stop for an opportunity to take memorable pictures at the 0 degree line. You will arrive at your lodge in Samburu in the late afternoon and have your lunch. Relax at the lodge and enjoy its available amenities or head out for a game drive. Diner and overnight stay at the lodge / camp.

Day 2: Game drive in Samburu National Reserve

The day shall be spent with game viewing drives with relaxing interludes at the Samburu NR. Game viewing drives in this dry and scenic game reserve are concentrated along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. This is where most wildlife is found. Samburu blesses you with sightings of the rare Northern specialist species such as the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. You will also notice that the elephants in this reserve have a reddish color, as a result of dust bathing in the red soil that is characteristic of Samburu NR. Retreat from the activity and drive back to your lodge / camp for an evening of relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve to Ol Pejeta Consevancy

Wake up and go for an early morning game drive in Samburu to have a chance to catch up with the predators. The reserve is also home to the big cats namely the lion, leopard, and cheetah among other animals like the gazelles, waterbucks, baboons, warthogs, hippos, hyenas and more.

After the game drive, you will have your breakfast and then depart for the much cooler region of Mt. Kenya to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The only place you can see chimpanzees in Kenya and it is also home to the only 2 remaining Northern White Rhinos (both female) in the world with measures to save the species from extinction underway. You will have an afternoon game to spot the different wildlife in this sanctuary. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 4: Transfer to Aberdare National park

After your breakfast, you will go for a morning game drive in Ol Pejeta Conservancy for a chance to spot the big 5 and many others like cheetahs, spotted hyenas, jackals, zebras and hartebeests. Thereafter, proceed to Aberdare National park arriving in time for lunch and later go for an afternoon game drive or nature walk. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 5: Aberdare NP to Lake Nakuru National Park

You will do an early morning game drive in Aberdare National park. The park provides a habitat for elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, warthogs and bushbucks among others. Head back to your lodge, have breakfast and then transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park with a stopover en-route to view the beautiful Thompson falls at Nyahururu.

A scenic drive via the Great Rift Valley escarpment, farms and homesteads. Reach Lake Nakuru in the afternoon in time for lunch and thereafter an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru NP is home to hundreds of bird species including a few flamingos. The park also hosts the black and white rhino population in its sanctuary. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 6: Transfer to Lake Bogoria National Reserve – Lake Naivasha – Hell’s Gate National park

Early breakfast and a morning game drive as you exit Lake Nakuru National park for Lake Bogoria National Reserve on a scenic drive along the floors of the Great Rift Valley. Visit the Lake Bogoria to marvel at the hot springs, geysers and flamingos viewing (season permitting). We shall later proceed to the Fresh water Lake Naivasha arriving in time for a delicious lunch after which we shall later proceed to the Fresh water Lake Naivasha from here, we shall visit the Hell’s Gate national park. Take a walk and explore the canyon, you will also be able to spot some animals. Retreat and head back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara National Reserve

Morning boat ride after breakfast on Lake Naivasha, expect to see different species of birds, hippos and other wildlife that comes to quench their thirst at the Lake and thereafter go for a short walking safari on the nearby Crescent Island. Later depart from Lake Naivasha and proceed to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve arriving in time for lunch and after a late afternoon game drive in this animal dotted national reserve. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 8: Full day wildlife adventure in Masai Mara National Reserve

Today, you shall traverse the Masai Mara reserve on a full day of unlimited game viewing encountering the Big 5 animals of Africa (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) and more of the other game animals together with different species of birds. You will go for an early morning game drive thereafter, return to the lodge for breakfast. You will head out again for another game drive to different corners of the Mara.

You can choose to carry packed lunch or drive back to the lodge / camp for a freshly served lunch. You will visit the Mara river where you may watch hippos and crocodiles or maybe the great migration (July – October). Retreat from the day’s activities and head back to your lodge for a relaxing evening. Dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 9: Back to Nairobi

Breakfast followed by a morning game drive as you drive out of the park back to Nairobi for a drop off at your hotel or at the airport to catch your flight back home. Optional activity in the Mara: Hot air balloon safari (extra cost). End of 9 Days Kenya Cultural Safari & Game Viewing Adventure Safari.
