Discover Enarau Conservancy – Maasai Mara’s Wildlife Sanctuary

Enarau Conservancy

Enarau Conservancy is one of the newest conservancies in the Masai Mara ecosystem. It was established in the year 2022. The main reason for setting up this conservancy was to reclaim lost land in the Masai Mara and help restore areas that had been degraded over time.

Purpose of Enarau Conservancy

The conservancy was created to protect the remaining natural areas of the Masai Mara. It also aims to bring back vegetation in places where it had reduced. One of the key goals is to promote afforestation by planting more trees and improving green cover across the land.

By restoring the land, the conservancy helps create a better environment for wildlife and also supports local communities who depend on the land.

Location in Masai Mara Ecosystem

Enarau Conservancy is located in the northern part of the Masai Mara. This area already has several other conservancies such as Lemek Conservancy, Ol Chorro Conservancy, and Enonkishu Conservancy.

Being close to these conservancies helps create a larger protected area for wildlife to move freely. It also supports better land use planning and conservation efforts across the region.

Size and Land Use

Enarau Conservancy covers about 2,140 acres. Together with other nearby areas, this brings the total conservancy space to about 3,140 acres. A large part of this land, about 1,000 acres, is set aside to maintain green cover.

This green cover is important for supporting wildlife, improving soil, and helping with rainfall patterns in the area.

Conservation and Future Plans

The conservancy focuses on simple and clear conservation work. This includes restoring land, protecting wildlife, and increasing vegetation. Over time, these efforts are expected to improve the condition of the land and support more wildlife in the Masai Mara ecosystem.

Enarau Conservancy is an important step in protecting and restoring the northern part of the Masai Mara.
