Detailed Kenya Group Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

On arrival at international airport in Nairobi our company driver/guide will be waiting to pick you up and welcome you to the magical country, Kenya. You will head to Amboseli National Park as your first safari stop. The view of the backdrop of the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro makes up for the dusty safari through the magnificent landscapes of the park.

Arriving at the park in the afternoon, you will have lunch and then head out for your first game drive of the safari in Amboseli national park. Amboseli’s rich ecosystem displays an impressive wildlife variety. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species like giraffes, gazelles, buffalos, warthogs, impalas, water buck among others. Retreat from the activity and drive to your lodge / camp for a relaxing evening, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full day game drive in Amboseli

Today you will have a full day of game drives in Amboseli National park. Wake up and go for an early morning game drive in park. Watch and see nature unfold in front of your eyes in the beautiful Amboseli NP. You will head back to the lodge / camp for your breakfast.

After breakfast and a little relaxation, you will head out again for another game. Drive around to the corners of the park for chances of spotting different animal species from large herds of the African elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, gazelles, leopards and cheetahs. Marvel at the beautiful backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro further at the border of Tanzania. Retreat and head back for an evening of relaxation at the lodge, enjoy the available amenities. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 3: Transfer to Nanyuki Town

After breakfast, you will check out and head out for a game drive on your way out of Amboseli national Park. Today you will take a long but scenic drive via Nairobi to the Laikipia Plateau located west of Mt Kenya.

After an en-route lunch, you will continue your drive to Nanyuki while you enjoy the beautiful view of the famous Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa after Mt. Kilimanjaro, arriving in the late afternoon at your hotel. You will check in freshen up, relax and enjoy the evening. Tomorrow you will explore the nearby Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 4: Drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After an early breakfast you will go to Ol Pejeta conservancy, a conserving natural wonder and a private sanctuary that helps protect endangered species which including the last 2 Northern White Rhinos left in the world and African wild dogs. It’s also home to the big 5 and many others like cheetahs, spotted hyenas, jackals, zebras and hartebeests.

You will go for a game drive to have a chance at spotting the different animal species in this conservancy. In the late afternoon you return to your hotel in Nanyuki for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: To Samburu National Reserve

In the early morning after breakfast, hit the road to Samburu National Reserve. On arrival you will do an en-route game drive to the lodge where you will have lunch. After lunch you will go for a long game drive in the park. The wildlife that you can find in Samburu game reserve are: Reticulated Giraffes, Gravy Zebras, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich to mention but a few. The cat family is also well represented with Lions, leopards and Cheetahs though regularly spotted.

Day 6: Full day game drive in Samburu

Early in the morning you set of for you morning game drive. Today you will spend the full day in the Samburu national reserve to explore the dry northern plains and the woodland river side in the south. Because of the semi-desert climate you have the most success in spotting animals when the air is still calm and the animals are more active in the morning.

You will return to the lodge for breakfast and then after head out for another game drive. You can choose to go with packed lunch or return to the lodge for a hot lunch. After lunch you set out once again for an afternoon game drive. Keep an eye out for leopards in the trees! In the evening you can relax at the lodge while enjoying its available amenities. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 7: Depart for Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast you will do an en-route game drive out of Samburu national reserve on your way to the floor of the Great Rift Valley where you will find Lake Nakuru National Park, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland. Have a stopover at the Rift valley view point from where you can take beautiful landscape photos of the Rift Valley’s vegetation and skyline. Lake Nakuru National Park is ideal for game drives, bird watching and hiking. You will arrive at the lodge / camp in the late afternoon, check in and relax with some refreshments. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 8: Full day game drives in Lake Nakuru

Prepare for a day full of different animal sightings with game drives at different times of the day. This will allow you to roam around the different corners of the beautiful Lake Nakuru National park.

Take note that: The population of lesser flamingos at the lake has reduced, since the water level of the lake has risen rapidly and more fresh water has come into the lake reducing its alkalinity which supports the growth of the Spirulina algae that the flamingos feed on. Many of the flamingos moved to other saline and alkaline lakes in the Rift Valley like Lake Bogoria.

Nevertheless, there is still a lot of wildlife to look out for in the park including the hippos, waterbucks, warthogs, impalas, buffalo, Rothschild giraffes, elands, endangered black rhinos, white rhinos and, occasionally, leopards. Head back to your lodge for a relaxing evening sundowner as you watch the sunset with beautiful rays over the landscape. Diner and overnight stay at your lodge or camp.

Day 9: Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast you will head to the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve an extension of the Serengeti National Park on the border with Tanzania. Home to the great wildebeest migration in the months of July – October when two million Wildebeest make their way northwards from the Serengeti in Tanzania.

On arrival, you will have lunch and then you will go for an afternoon game drive to spot elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, hippos and crocodiles in the Mara River. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge or camp.

Day 10 & 11: Full day game drives in Masai Mara

For these 2 days, you will have full days of game drives. Prepare your wild adventurous side and buckle up for some thrilling sightings. You will have early morning game drives before sunrise for a chance to spot the resident predators that might have made a kill the previous night or sight some hunting action. By sunrise, you will return for breakfast and then prepare for a mid-morning game drive, the sun is completely out so more visibility of the other animal residents in the park like the elephants, buffalos, antelopes, gazelles, zebras, giraffes, warthogs among others.

You can choose to either have a picnic lunch or drive back to the lodge for a freshly served lunch. After lunch, head out for another game drive in hope for a lucky chance to be at the right place at the Mara River and at the right time to watch the wildebeests prepare to start their journey across the river or actually watch the great annual wildebeest migration happen. At the end of each exciting day you will come back to the lodge / camp where you can relax with a cold drink as you enjoy the available accommodation facilities. Dinner and overnight stay at you lodge / camp.

Optional activity of the day: Hot air balloon Safari over the Masai Mara National Reserve or a visit to the Maasai Community at an extra cost.

Day 12: Back to Nairobi – Flight back home

Last day of your adventure 12 day complete Kenya wildlife safari.  Pack your bags, have your last delicious breakfast and then it is time to end your temporary residence status in the land of the wildebeests and home to the big 5. Drive back to Nairobi where the driver / guide will drop you at the airport for your flight back home.
