Detailed Kenya Camping Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Nairobi

On this day of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari, our company representative will pick you up from the airport upon arrival and drive you to your hotel for check in. Depending on your time of arrival, you will go for a Nairobi City Tour and later in the evening, the driver will drop you at your hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Welcome to magical Kenya.

Day 2: Daphne Sheldrick, Giraffe Centre & City Tour

First morning in Kenya. Wake up to a delicious breakfast at your hotel. Your driver will pick you up after your breakfast and drive you to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Orphanage to visit and spend an hour with the orphan elephants. Watch them feed and take a mud bath as the one of the care takers takes you around and tells you all about the elephants and their conservation project.

Thereafter, transfer to the Giraffe Center in Lang’ata which was established in order to protect the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Get opportunities to get up close and personal with the giraffes at this center. You will also get a chance to touch and feed them. Retreat from the day’s activities and drive back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

After your early morning breakfast on this day of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari, your driver will pick you up and drive you to Samburu National Reserve, the most popular game reserve in Northern Kenya. The arid environment provides excellent opportunities of wildlife viewing. Samburu is home to the northern Kenya specials including beisa oryx, lesser kudu, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and the gerenuk.

You will have lunch en-route and on arriving in the park, you will do an afternoon introductory game drive as you drive to your lodge / camp for check in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Game drives in Samburu Game Reserve

Enjoy a whole day of game viewing in the Samburu NR on this fourth day of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari. After an early morning breakfast, you will take to the park in search of the different animal species that call Samburu home. Animals to spot include: lions (rare), leopards, elephants, buffalos, giraffes, grevy’s zebras, oryx, kudu, gerenuk, hyenas, hippos and different species of birds including the ostrich.

Traverse the corners of the national reserve, spot different wildlife and amazing views not forgetting to capture them on your camera. Lunch break and after more wildlife viewing opportunities. Enjoy the experience. Retreat from the game drives later in the evening and drive back to your lodge / camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park

Today you will drive towards the South part of Kenya. Have your breakfast and with packed lunch boxes, drive towards the Great Rift valley to its floor arriving Lake Nakuru National Park in the late afternoon. Embark on a game drive in this scenic national park with high chances of spotting 4 of the members of the Big 5 African animals that is the lion, leopard, the endangered rhinos and buffalos.

The varied habitats in Nakuru NP support an excellent range of wildlife. More animals to spot include giraffes, hippos, zebras, warthogs, waterbucks, impalas and different bird species including pelicans and flamingos (reduced population) during season. Retreat and drive to your lodge / camp for check in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara Game Reserve

After an early breakfast on this 6th day of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari, you will go for a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru NP before you depart for the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, the most visited game reserve in Kenya. Home to the great wildebeest migration in the months of July – October when two million Wildebeest, thousands of zebras and hundreds of other antelopes cross the challenging Mara River in search of greener pastures during the dry season.

Upon arrival in the Mara, you will have lunch and then head out for a late afternoon game drive to spot different wildlife like elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, hippos and crocodiles in the Mara River. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Days 7 & 8: Exploration of Masai Mara National Reserve

You will spend these 2 days exploring the endless plains of Masai Mara Game drive as it has so much to offer. From the scenic views, the endless savanna plains dotted with thousands of animals to the annual wildebeest migration.

Roam the Mara to spot the different wildlife that traverse its plains including the Big 5 African animals: lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos and the endangered rhinos among other animals like the wildebeests, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, gazelles, wild dogs, hyenas, cheetahs, baboons, jackals, hippos, crocodiles and many more plus hundreds of different species of birds. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Naivasha

Your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari will continue with a transfer to the fresh water Lake Naivasha. Early morning game drive (or hot air balloon safari on request at an extra cost) to further explore the Mara and after breakfast, you depart for Lake Naivasha arriving in time for a hot lunch.

After lunch, you will go for a guides nature walk or game drive to the Crescent Island to spot different animals like buffalos, zebras, waterbucks, giraffes, monkeys among others. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 10: Explore Hell’s Gate near Lake Naivasha

After a delicious breakfast on day ten of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari, you depart your lodge for Hell’s Gate National park, one of Kenya’s smaller national parks characterized by diverse topography and geological scenery.

With packed lunches, you will drive to Hell’s Gate NP and spend the day exploring the scenic park on foot or hire bicycles and ride amid gracefully grazing gazelles and the larger antelopes. Enjoy the delightful experience. For the more adventurous, hiking and rock climbing activities are available on request. Dinner and overnight at your lodge / camp.

Day 11: Transfer to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast on this day of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari, you continue driving south to Amboseli National Park at the foot of the mighty Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. Amboseli NP is famous for its big game and its great scenic beauty, experience all this on an afternoon game drive after your lunch on arrival in the park. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 12: Whole day game viewing in Amboseli National Park

Full day exploration of the scenic and picturesque Amboseli National Park. Starting with a pre-sunrise game drive for a chance to catch up with the parks big cats: lions and leopards (rare sightings) or other predators (hyenas) on their morning hunt or feeding on their morning kill. Watch the park come to life at sunrise before driving back to the lodge / camp for a delicious breakfast.

After breakfast, head out for afternoon and evening game drives. Expect to see hundreds of elephants, zebras, giraffes, impalas, buffalos, hippos and a number of different bird species including the pelicans and Egyptian goose. Retreat and drive back to your lodge / camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 13: Depart for Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast on day 13 of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari, with an en-route game drive, exit Amboseli National Park and drive to Tsavo West National Park. The second biggest national park in Kenya. Upon arrival, you will visit the Mzima springs which provides a living habitat for aquatic and land creatures in the Tsavo West NP.

Drive to your lodge / camp for check in and lunch. After a short rest, head out to explore this vast park on an afternoon game drive for chances to spot the different animals that inhabit the park: lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, ostriches, buffalos, hippos and so much more. You will also visit the park’s Rhino Sanctuary – Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary for a chance to see the critically endangered black rhinos. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge / camp.

Day 14: Tsavo West National Park to Tsavo East National Park

Time to explore Kenya’s largest national park, Tsavo East National Park. After breakfast, embark on a journey to Tsavo Eat NP, with an en-route game drive as you exit Tsavo West NP. Famous for the red-dust elephants and Tsavo lions.

The park’s sparse foliage allows for easier wildlife spotting while on game drives. Embark on an afternoon game drive in this vast national park after which drive to your lodge / camp for an evening of relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 15: Game drives in Tsavo East National Park

Wake up to another day in the country’s largest national park and also one of the oldest parks. The park has endless grasslands and savanna, and because of its large size, the game drives are long and very rewarding. Enjoy your whole day viewing the wildlife and different habitants in Tsavo East NP.

Animals to spot include Tsavo lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos, elands, kudus, waterbucks, dik-diks, impala, jackal, mongoose, zebras, hyenas, gazelle, velvet monkeys, bat-eared fox, hippos, crocodiles among others.

Day 16: Transfer to Mombasa  

Time to hit the beach. Wake up for an early morning game drive pre-sunrise to experience Tsavo East in a different light. Drive back to the lodge / camp after the game drive, check out, have your breakfast and thereafter depart for Mombasa. Lunch en-route. Arrive at your beach hotel / resort in the late afternoon, check in and have a refreshing and relaxing evening. Dinner and overnight stay at your beach hotel / resort.

Days 17-19: Leisure at Mombasa Beaches

A day at the Beach. Wake up to the cool morning breeze and sound of the waves from the Indian Ocean. Have your breakfast and spend the day at your own pace. These days at the beach you will spend them how best fit you feel like. Relaxing at the hotel / resort enjoying the available amenities, taking beach walks, sunbathing, swimming, playing beach games, windsurfing, diving, snorkeling or skiing. You can also choose to visit the Mombasa Marine Park. Dinner and overnight stay at your beach hotel / reserve.

Day 20: Departure

After your breakfast on this last day of your 20 Days Long Kenya Safari, you can spend the morning at leisure before check out. Your driver will pick you up and drop you at the Airport in Mombasa for your flight back home or for your flight to Nairobi to catch your flight back home. Or you can drive back to Nairobi (approx… 7-8 hours).
